Who is Friends International?Friends International was registered as a charity in Denmark in 1997. It was started by Torben and Dorrit Madsen, who have a heart and burden for children in Africa. Torben grew up as a missionary child in Tanzania and he understands the needs of the African children. Dorrit worked with pre-school children as well as in Sunday Schools in churches for many years. Dorrit and Torben also worked in an orphanage in Eldoret, Kenya.
The purpose of the charity is to help children in poor countries to a better life. The charity is especially concerned about educational projects, which help children and their families out of poverty. Michael Jarnvig is Protector for the charity. He is very well known in Denmark as the national weatherman on the national TV. Friends International is supporting projects, ensuring that the beneficiary gets the help promised. |

What does it mean to be a sponsor?In Africa poverty is widespread and manychildren therefore never get a chance for education. Friends International is working to help such children in the third world and is involved in education projects in East Africa. As a sponsor you can support a child’s schooling for a year or more and thus give a child a better chance in life. To be a sponsor means to support a specific child, whereby the child gets a chance to go to school.
Friends International have qualified staff in East Africa, who assure that your support goes direct to your child. When your sponsorship begins, you will receive a picture and a profile of your child. Once a year you will receive a report on the development of the child and the future perspectives. You will also be asked to extend your support for one more year. You are by no means bound to do so, but you are free to stop your support at any time. |
How much does it cost?
A sponsorship costs £180 per year. The money goes towards school uniform, school books, tuition fees, a meal per day and other needs. You can choose to pay monthly or yearly. The funds are administered by Friends International’s office in Denmark and by Friends International’s own personnel in Africa Friends International do not charge any administration. All donations go directly to the recipient!
